Habitat for Humanity of Morgan County builds 2 – 3 houses a year in Morgan County. A Habitat build brings together a unique cross section of individuals, corporations, and faith-based organizations that draw inspiration from each other while reaching deep into the heart of Habitat’s mission to help more low-income families purchase homes. To help support this mission, Habitat is always looking for additional sponsor and volunteer groups to help make these homes a reality.
Sponsorship: A sponsoring group helps fund and build a Habitat home. To sponsor one build day, a group would contribute $5,500 toward the cost of construction and bring 20-25 volunteers to accomplish the construction tasks for the day. Some groups may even choose to sponsor multiple days or even a full house (10 build days/$55,000 contribution/200 volunteers). To learn more about sponsorship, please contact Ken Wooden at 317-204-2800 ext. 11 or use our contact form.
Volunteer Only: Beyond sponsorships, Habitat is always looking for additional construction volunteers to help build our homes. If you are interested in building as a group, or as an individual, please add your contact information to our build contact form. Availability on our build site is limited and we will only contact possible volunteers when there is availability and your group size matches our need. Sometimes, it may take a few months before volunteers are able to build with us.
Supervisor On Site (SOS): Are you an individual who would like to build with us on a regular basis? Do you have good personal skills, are safety conscious, and are willing to learn Habitat’s construction techniques? If so, you may be interested in volunteering as a SOS. No building experience is necessary, but power tool competency is a must. Habitat’s SOS lead volunteers in the daily construction tasks and help provide those volunteers a safe and rewarding experience. If interested, please contact Ken Wooden 317-204-2800 or use our contact form for more details.
General Build Information: A Habitat build day usually starts at 7:30 a.m., ends around 4:30 p.m., and is held on Fridays or Saturdays with a few Thursday/Sunday build days mixed in. Depending on the day, volunteers might accomplish a variety of tasks including framing, insulation, siding, windows, doors, paint, cabinets, and landscaping. Habitat provides all of the necessary tools and instruction, so volunteers just need to be at least age 16 (16 & 17 year olds must have adult supervision), wear closed-toe shoes, and come dressed and ready to work. Volunteers under 16 and open-toe or open-heel shoes are not permitted on the build site at any time, except for the home dedication.
